Sculptures
I create sculptures primarily from wood found in nature. The natural characteristics and imperfections of the wood form a starting point for my visual process. I prefer wood that is warped, rotten, or moldy. I begin by removing the wood and, as it were, engage in a conversation with it. Something emerges from this, both consciously and unconsciously. Often, human figures, torsos, sometimes animals or abstract forms in which a hint of a human figure is discernible. The uniqueness of the wood found in nature is tangible and visibly present.
Even when I create a commissioned sculpture, for example, for an award ceremony or as a memorial to a deceased person, I don’t work from a drawing. I strive to capture the client’s wish or story, and I seem to succeed time and again. Feel free to contact me!
Below you will find four groups of wooden sculptures:
- sculptures made from wood dound in nature;
- memorial sculptures, made in memory of a person;
- a series of “water nymphs,” sculptures made of wood from an archaeological dig, a medieval well;
- the image-poetry book ‘Feel it. Spoken wood’
